April 21, 2020 – Romans 1:1-16
Hi! And Welcome to afaithtalk.com. Today we’re starting Bible Study Round Two. Months ago my local class did Romans in 8 weeks. We’re doing Romans in much more than that. We’re going to go relatively slowly and see how much we can glean and what wonders await in the belief of what we’re going to read. Faith. It’s a Faith book. It’s faith you need. It’s faith you will grow in this reading. May God grant us much grace and fill us all with His Peace as we begin.
Let’s Pray…
Lord Jesus, we are here to learn what you have for us today. I pray, remove any unbelief of any kind that you find in us and make our hearts completely Yours. In Jesus’ name.
The first four verses of Romans 1 are so perfectly focused on Jesus that we cannot go any further until we confirm that we believe exactly what Paul is saying. So let’s begin here.
Read Romans 1:1-4 NIV
This message Paul has been set apart for is the _____________ of __________ which God _______________ beforehand through the _____________ in the Holy Scriptures regarding ________ ________.
The Spirit of _________________ appointed Jesus, _______________________ in power by his _____________________ from the dead: Jesus Christ ______ ________.
So far you believe, correct? If you’re wavering, go back and start over. Dwell on those first four verses until you hear God speak. This book is full of rock solid truth.
Affirmation…
The Gospel of God is Jesus Our Lord, the Son of God, the first and thus far only One resurrected from the dead.
I believe; if you’re with me, on we go.
Here is Romans 1:5-7 MSG (in the Message)
Through him we received both the generous gift of his life and the urgent task of passing it on to others who receive it by entering into obedient trust in Jesus. You are who you are through this gift and call of Jesus Christ! And I greet you now with all the generosity of God our Father and our Master Jesus, the Messiah.
What is the urgent task?

Verse 7 in the NIV:
7 To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Somewhere I either read it or heard it, this is the first time Jesus is put on level with God in a letter. What that does for my confidence level is astonishing.
To all in (wherever you are) who are __________ by God, yes you are, loved by God, but that’s not all. You are also __________ to be His holy people. It’s only those who believe they are loved and called and are becoming obedient to Jesus Christ who are granted Grace and Peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Read Verse 8
I wonder, could it be said of us?
What is being reported all over the world? ___________________
Or how it is said in The Message
I thank God through Jesus for every one of you. That’s first. People everywhere keep telling me about your lives of faith, and every time I hear them, I thank him.
What is the first thing people tell him about? ___________________ and what kind of response should we have? ____________________
Read Romans 1:9-12
One way to serve God is to ____________ the gospel of His Son.
God witnesses what whatever you do.
Paul ___________ remembers them and prays that the way may be ___________ for him to satisfy his _____________ to see them thereby all of them being mutually ___________________ by each other’s ______________.
See, I told you, It’s a faith book. Faith is vital.
Read Romans 1:13-16
For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written:
“The righteous will live by faith.” Romans1:17
“The righteous will _______ by ________.”
I am so grateful this chapter starts with all this. It’s going to be a while before we get back to the righteous. The warnings and consequences take multiple chapters but don’t fear, by chapter 5 it will lift again. And all of it is valuable for teaching and correcting and whatever else God wants for our lives. Hold onto your faith. Truly believe, what is coming is not about those of us with faith.
Because we’re taking this slow. I think we’re supposed to stop here this week. Spend a decent amount of time in the first 17 verses of Romans 1. Let it grow and stretch your faith so that next week, when we start in on the warnings and consequences that finish out this chapter, you will be able to hold onto that knowledge that you are filled with faith and therefore the righteous who live by faith.
Because it really is vital that you have faith.
Come back next week for session two.
Let’s pray.
Father, this is such a big book. Every sentence is worth deep thinking. Thank You, for making it available and for working us through it as You show us what it means to really be totally Yours. I ask as we study this week You’ll reveal even more, You’ll confirm our faith and point out things we need to change. That You’ll draw us ever closer to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

This is so wonderful!! Thank you, Tammani….
