Did you know that in Christ, you are already atoned for? He is our atonement. Every single day, for all time? Yes, it’s true. Jesus is our righteousness and freedom and in Him, we are forgiven forever. Blessed be His Name.
Let’s pray:
Lord Jesus, if there is anyone reading this who isn’t completely sure they have You, would you reveal yourself to them? O Lord, the wonderful gifts you give us every day and chief among them the total forgiveness so long as we forgive those indebted to us. And most wonderful among them is Your presence in our lives. Lead us, Lord, to really believe what is said in these scriptures. For Your Glory.
We’re going to read a few different scriptures today. See if you can figure out why.
First. Read Matthew 26:26-28
26 Now as they were eating Jesus took bread, and after blessing it, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” 27 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; 28 for this is My blood of the [new and better] covenant, which [ratifies the agreement and] is being poured out for many [as a substitutionary atonement] for the forgiveness of sins.
Eat this bread and drink this wine for it is His Body and His Blood and in doing so, we get to join this mystery and show we accept substitutionary atonement. Meaning His life for us.
Now read Romans 3:25
{Jesus,} 25 whom God displayed publicly [before the eyes of the world] as a [life-giving] sacrifice of atonement and reconciliation (propitiation) by His blood [to be received] through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness [which demands punishment for sin], because in His forbearance [His deliberate restraint] He passed over the sins previously committed [before Jesus’ crucifixion].
A life-giving sacrifice of atonement and reconciliation. All of it by Faith that it is true. That He who He says He is. That all of what He did is gift to you, to me. Believe.
Then read Hebrews 2:17
17 Therefore, it was essential that He had to be made like His brothers (mankind) in every respect, so that He might [by experience] become a merciful and faithful High Priest in things related to God, to make atonement (propitiation) for the people’s sins [thereby wiping away the sin, satisfying divine justice, and providing a way of reconciliation between God and mankind].
Reconciled to God through this atoning sacrifice. All my sins are wiped away as far as the east is from the west and in God’s eyes I am covered in Christ’s Righteousness. Believe it, it’s true for you too.
