Jesus is most certainly the King. The King of the heavenly kingdom those of us who are faithful belong to. The King of Peace and Life and Light, and also our Savior and our greatest friend.
John 19:13-16 – Amplified Bible
Please read John 19:13-16
13 When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called [e]The Pavement, but in [f]Hebrew, Gabbatha. 14 Now it was the day of Preparation for the [g]Passover [week], and it was about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews, “Look, your King!” 15 But they shouted, “Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar!”
The Crucifixion
16 Then he handed Him over to them to be crucified.
You might wonder why this stops here. I can’t really explain it other than to say that this right here is where I get stopped. Just stopped before I can move further. It’s like the hope that it could happen differently is crushed the moment I get here. But I also know, the plan is God’s plan and it will occur one way or another. Yet it still always makes me stop.
The King of the World is going to die. And the whole chapter ends with the horror of His death. But it is still true: Friday’s good because Sunday’s coming. And it is also true that He is the true Passover Lamb. So while we wait we do not grieve like those who have no faith. We just wait. For we know He has promised to rise. And He will rise. But first, we wait in the emptiness of this grief.
