Skid-a-ma-rink a dink a dink, skid-a-ma-rink ee ay, it’s Tuesday! Oh how I love what Tuesday means, holds, promises. I’m so glad you’re here, for the first time or or back to study with me. What we focus on here is Faith.
We’re in the middle of 1 Peter this week. My these go fast.
This is the chapter talking about family.
Lord Jesus, help us. Help us see and feel your presence leading us in any way we need to change. Help us understand and give us the how along with the why and make us tenderhearted and willing. Grow our faith, Lord, make us powerful and audacious and tenacious people of prayer. In Your holy and precious name, I pray. Amen.
1 Peter 3:1-4 MSG
1-4 The same goes for you wives: Be good wives to your husbands, responsive to their needs. There are husbands who, indifferent as they are to any words about God, will be captivated by your life of holy beauty. What matters is not your outer appearance—the styling of your hair, the jewelry you wear, the cut of your clothes—but your inner disposition.
It’s a behavior thing. How is it the NIV puts it?
the unfading _________ of a _________ and ________ spirit, which is of great _______ in God’s sight.
That’s the best reason to do all this, don’t you think?
Read 1 Peter 3:5-6
The holy women of the past who put their _____ in ______. They adorned themselves with this hope. “If you do what is right and do not give way to fear.” The Message puts it this way. “You’ll be true daughters of Sarah if you do the same, un-anxious and unintimidated.”
Do not give way to _______ be un-____________ and ____________________. Do you live this way? Not just in your relationship with your spouse but in life?
Did you know that you can pray powerful and audacious prayers? Might I suggest you start with those in Scripture. Trust Him. It is possible to be at peace, with a gentle and quiet spirit. It has to be possible or we wouldn’t be told to have it.
Read 1 Peter 3:7
1 Peter 3:7 MSG
The same goes for you husbands: Be good husbands to your wives. Honor them, delight in them. As women they lack some of your advantages. But in the new life of God’s grace, you’re equals. Treat your wives, then, as equals so your prayers don’t run aground.
If a husband doesn’t do this, what will happen to his prayers?
The NIV says they’ll be _____________ The Message says they’ll __________________________.
Read 1 Peter 3:8-9
Suffering for Doing Good
Be like-minded, be __________________, _______ one another, be _________________ and ______________. Repay evil with _______________ because to this you were ______________ so that you may ____________ a ______________.
Read 1 Peter 3:10-12
10 For, “Whoever would love life
and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
11 They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”[Psalm 34:12-16]
Psalm 34, what a fantastic psalm. It’s full of wonderful things to know. You can find the study of three verses before these here. But to look at these a little closer, let’s do this:
Whoever would love life and see good days must
___________________________________________________
and their __________________________________________
They must ____________________ and ____________________;
they must seek ____________ and ________________________.
Why?
________________________________________________________ and His ears are _________________________________________, but the face of the Lord is against _________________________________________.
Read 1 Peter 3:13-14
We will all suffer at some point in some way. So keep doing __________. Because suffering faith-filled people are still ____________.
Read 1 Peter 3:15a
15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord.
Revere according to m-w.com is to show devoted deferential honor to : regard as worthy of great honor
Proverbs 4:23
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
What verses come to mind when you hear the phrase “in your hearts” I get the feeling that there’s a huge lesson here but I can’t see it clearly yet.
Read 1 Peter 3:15b-16
Do you know the reason for the hope you have? Do you think it means be ready to answer the why you live the way you do? Is your faith so obvious and your behavior so different that you get that question?
If ever you do, how are you to answer? With ____________ and ______________, keeping a ____________________________, so that those who speak maliciously _________ your good behavior in ___________ may be ___________ of their ___________.
Read 1 Peter 3:17
It is better, if it is God’s will, to ____________ for ______ _______ than it is for ________ ________.
Read 1 Peter 3:18-22
Why did Christ suffer?
Baptism is the..?
That clear conscious? Or Baptism’s pledge? What is “it” exactly that saves us?
Christ has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.
Does that evoke Ephesians 1 for you? I’ll refrain from adding that, but oh how I hear it.
All we really need is Faith. Lord, help us.
Thank You, Jesus, for this chapter, for this lesson, for all You do for us each and every day. Amen.
