Yahoo, we’re here and it’s Tuesday again! Two days till Thanksgiving, I hope you’re ready. Today we’re going to finish Peter’s letters by doing all of the second one in one lesson. This will be fun. So glad you’ve taken the time to join me in this.
Let’s pray:
Lord Jesus, only You can get us all through this letter in one session. You are worthy of every minute we spend with You. Lord, today we ask that You lead us through this letter, give us wisdom and reveal what we need to see to know You better. I trust You. To You be all the glory. Amen.
Locate 2 Peter, it’s right after 1 Peter or you can click
2 Peter 1 NIV right here.
Read Verses 1-2
Faith is precious. We have received this faith, the same faith the disciples turned apostles had. And it is precious.
Go back and reread those two verses very slowly. Here, I’ll help.
1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ
It’s only through the _____________________ of our God and Savior Jesus.
(That we) have received a faith as precious as ours (Peter and James and John and (name another one) ________________: The faith they were given through the years they spent with Jesus, we have also been given through Him and the words they’ve passed down.
Grace and peace be yours through what?
Grace and Peace come through the knowledge of God. I know Jesus is here because He told me what to write in the prayer above and do you know where those words come from? Ephesians 1:17
“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”
The Spirit of wisdom and revelation is given so that we can know Him better. To know Him better we see that we can be given grace and peace in abundance. Because He is full of grace and peace.

Confirming One’s Calling and Election
Grace and Peace come through knowledge, but that’s not all. Everything we need for a godly life comes through the knowledge of Him too, because He has called us by His own ____________ and _______________.
Read Verses 4
What do you think “Through these” means? The knowledge? The Grace, The Peace? I think it’s the knowledge because you have to have that before any of this happens. If you think differently, do explain why.
We’ve been given these great and precious promises so that we can participate in what? What do they ensure we’ll escape from?
Read Verses 5-8
Make Every Effort to add to your faith what? Underline if you’re using your own Bible, write if you’re not, a list that looks something like this:
FAITH +
Goodness +
Knowledge +
Self-Control +
Perseverance +
Godliness +
Mutual Affection +
Love =
For verse 8 says if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, meaning every one of them grows, they will keep us from being (This is what goes under the line of the equation) Write it something like ….. Love = Effective & Productive in my Knowledge of Jesus Christ. Underline Effective and Productive. (If you’re using your Bible, underline “will keep you from being)
Sit with that for a minute.
This knowledge must be another level of it, don’t you think? Because you have to have some knowledge to have real faith.
Do you find yourself using self-control often? Sometimes it looks like choosing the right thing. Like this: I have this high motivation to clean this room I sit in and do something to make it look a lot better, but I know it’s the day I’m supposed to write this and the time I do this is early in the day so I had to stop and choose to sit here so that Jesus could hand me this lesson. Doing this when He’s ready is highly important and when I do, He gives me what I need for the other things on my plate. It’s a kind of obedience thing.
Read Verses 9-11
Make Every Effort to _________________ your ______________ and _____________________. (Yes, these are very Ephesians type words
too. In verses 3-10 you’ll see several instances of things we’ve received because of faith and through all the things Peter is talking about.
Ephesians 1:3-10
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ, for he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight in love, he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves, in him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.
Yes, I took out the periods because technically this is all one sentence.
This is proof of calling and election. What I want you to do right now is circle or underline all the instances of “us” if you’re using your Bible. If not, write out this:
Though Love and His glorious Grace, God has…
Chosen me (before the world began)
to be holy and blameless
Predestined me for adoption
as His own precious child
In Jesus, I have
Redemption and Forgiveness
and am lavished with grace
Grace in place of grace already given is how John 1:16 puts it.
And I can know the mystery of His will, his good, pleasing and perfect will, to bring unity to all things under Christ when the times reach their fulfillment.
Meaning they will reach their fulfillment one of these days.
