It’s Tuesday, the day we start the brand new book here, 2nd Timothy. For this and the next three weeks there will be a chapter of this one up for our weekly study.
I’m so glad you’ve come to study with me. I read the NIV so if you have one you can grab it along with a journal or paper and something to write with. If not, go here.
Let’s begin with a prayer:
Lord Jesus, I ask for your help to study this chapter. Show us what we need to see or realize, and lead us as only You can. Thank You for all who come to study with us, Lord, bless every moment they spend here. In Your holy name, I pray. Amen.
Read 2 Timothy 1:1-2
The promise of what? __________
Grace, ___________ and __________ are from God the Father and ___________________________________.
A quick Scripture review just because Scripture reminds me of Scripture:
John 1:16 NIV Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of ____________________________.
Lamentations 3:22-24 NKJV Through the Lord’s ________ we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are _______ every morning; Great is Your ______________.

We all have Spiritual mothers. Maybe not our own, maybe none are known, but you do, whether you know them or not, God knows. Faith is a gift but others reveal who He is to us.

Appeal for Loyalty to Paul and the Gospel
Fan into flame the gift which is in you… your faith. You must keep fanning it to keep it alive within you.
There’s a Matthew West song on one of my playlists that quotes verse 7. It’s called Power Love Sound Mind.
Hebrews 2:1-4 NIV
Warning to Pay Attention
2 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2 For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
Oh is there ever more Scripture to confirm that faith must be exercised. I’m thinking of several I’ve heard this past few days. The one in Hebrews above is the clearest example. Ephesians 3:4 is also a good one. “4 In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ,” Reading, remembering, paying careful attention to what we read and what we hear through reading is one way to exercise your faith. That will give you the baseline to then go exercise it because you will have given a lot of thought to what you have read and how you can see it or prove it in your life.
Read 2 Timothy 1:8-10
Why suffer for the gospel? Because He has saved us and called us to a holy life because of his own ________________________. This grace was given us in _______________ before __________________________________________, but it has now been _______________ through the appearing of ________________, Christ Jesus, who has _____________ death and has brought __________ and _________________ to light through the ___________. Do you feel the power in that sentence? This holy life you were called to is in Him and with Him and through your faith in Him. He is worthy of all our praise.
Read 2 Timothy 1:11-12
Paul gets carried away into very long sentences, but this one is also done in song. I know whom I have believed…
Read 2 Timothy 1:13-14
This is sound teaching, with _______ and _______ in Christ Jesus. Guard the good deposit that was ____________ to you with the help of the ______________ who lives __________.
Read 2 Timothy 1:15-18
Do you think the subtitle for those three verses is accurate? I think Paul would have worded it differently if those in Asia had been sent somewhere by him. Chances are those two left the faith. It’s not easy to keep it. That’s why you have to guard it and enflame it. Grow it, my friends, that’s what we do here on afaithtalk.
Thank You, Lord Jesus for this chapter and these words of sound teaching. Keep us ever mindful that You are with us at all times and want our faith and our thanks to overflow. In Your holy and precious name, I pray. Amen.
