Bible Study – 1 Peter 4

Zippy do dah, it’s Tuesday! So glad to have this for you to come study with me. Glad you’re here and we’re two chapters from finished with 1 Peter, counting this one of course. Thank you for coming to spend time in Bible Study. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

First, let’s pray:
Father, thank You for this chance to study again. Thank You for this lesson. Take this time and help us see what You mean for us to see as we spend this time in first Peter. Thank You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Living for God
1 Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.

Quick review from chapter 3:8-15a, the Message:
Summing up: Be agreeable, be sympathetic, be loving, be compassionate, be humble. That goes for all of you, no exceptions. No retaliation. No sharp-tongued sarcasm. Instead, bless—that’s your job, to bless. You’ll be a blessing and also get a blessing.

Whoever wants to embrace life
    and see the day fill up with good,
Here’s what you do:
    Say nothing evil or hurtful;
Snub evil and cultivate good;
    run after peace for all you’re worth.
God looks on all this with approval,
    listening and responding well to what he’s asked;
But he turns his back
    on those who do evil things.

If with heart and soul you’re doing good, do you think you can be stopped? Even if you suffer for it, you’re still better off. Don’t give the opposition a second thought. Through thick and thin, keep your hearts at attention, in adoration before Christ, your Master. – 1 Peter 3:8-15a

What does ‘whoever suffers in the body is done with sin’ mean?

Read Verse 2-3:

Live your earthly life for _______________________ for you have spent enough time doing and living in evil.

Read Verse 4-6:

For this reason the _________________________ even to those who are now _____________. So that they might live according to God in regard to the ________.

Read Verse 7-11:

The way Peter says these things makes me think it’s so very important how we act, how we behave, because how we behave affects our prayers. 

Above all, ___________________________ because love covers over a ______________________________. Offer ___________ to one another without _____________.
Hospitality, by the way, if you are confused on what that means, is the friendly and generous reception of everyone.

Each of you should use whatever _______ you have received to ________ others, as faithful stewards of God’s __________ in its various forms.

These are spiritual gifts. Do you know what yours are? Sure, you could use every tangible gift God has gifted you with, but mostly what Peter is saying here is Spiritual. Be a faithful steward of God’s grace. That’s all that matters.

Read Verse 12-19:
Suffering for Being a Christian

Rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the ________________________________________________, so that you may be ________________ when his ___________ is __________________.

You are blessed, for the ___________________ and of ______ rests on you. 

However, if you___________________________, do not be ashamed, but ____________ God that you bear ______________.

Verse 18 And “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved,
    what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”
(Proverbs 11:31)

There are many who are not part of the righteous. How can we win people for the kingdom? Is it Love? Maybe it’s joy?
