Grace and Peace to you from God our Father and from our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Welcome to Daniel 6, probably one of the most well loved stories is in this chapter. I’m reading it in the NIV, so if you need one, go here. Also paper and something to write with could be helpful. I’m so glad you’re joining me in this study. Before we start, let’s pray.
Dear Lord Jesus, I’m asking that as familiar as we think this story is, you help us see it with new eyes. I’m asking for You to lead. And Lord, help us, grant us a faith like Daniel and his friends. Faith like Daniel in the lion’s den… All of it for your Glory. Amen.
Read Daniel 6:1-3
Daniel in the Den of Lions
King Darius is also the reign of Cyrus according to the footnotes.
Daniel distinguished himself among them all by his exceptional qualities. Faith, great faith, and complete Trust. Yes, Jesus wants you to have this same kind of Trust and Faith.
Read Daniel 6:4
A very godly man.
Read Daniel 6:5-9
Familiar? These officials have such a low degree of imagination. And it appears very little to no faith at all that God holds in His hands, their lives. Still that ‘cannot be altered’ thing is weird, don’t you think? Any situation like that should be well thought out and it should be rare. It’s too bad the king hadn’t given any thought to why Daniel is so trustworthy at this point.
Read Daniel 6:10-14
Do you think now the king realizes what he’s done? Realizes why Daniel is such a wonderful man?
Read Daniel 6:15
Chances are the king realized their deception yet he could do nothing since he went along with their suggestion.
Read Daniel 6:16-18
“May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!”
Oh the sorrow, the king too sad and sorry to eat, call for entertainment or sleep. Too bad he did not already know The only God worth every moment of our time.
Read Daniel 6:19-23
“They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight.” You too. If you believe in Jesus, you are covered in Him and His innocents is yours. ‘And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because__________________________________.’
You can too. Trust Him with all of your life.
Read Daniel 6:24
Swift justice. It was not a kind place to live.
Read Daniel 6:25-28
The God of Daniel is our God too. Praise Him for his everlasting dominion.
“For he is the living God
and he endures forever;
his kingdom will not be destroyed,
his dominion will never end.”
Thank You, Jesus, for this lesson and these words. Thank You for being eternal. And for being the same and wanting the same things we see in Daniel in each of us too. Make it so, Lord. Make it so. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
