Grace and Peace to you! Welcome back! It’s Tuesday, another day for Bible Study and we’re in a wholly different book. This one has 13 chapters, which will get us almost to Advent, so this couldn’t be a better choice, thank You, Lord, for Your always good and perfect will.
We’re beginning a study of Hebrews today so grab your NIV or go here, and a piece of paper and something to write with.
Before we start, let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your perfect gifts and the way you lead. Thank You for this book and the start day of studying it but also for all those times you bring this book back throughout the year in a verse of the day or thought in my head or something in something else I’ve read. Lord, You are amazing. So I’m asking, lead us through chapter one today and reveal everything you want us to see. All for You, Lord.
Read Hebrews 1:1-2
God’s Final Word: His Son
‘His Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.’ Scripture verifies Scripture, do you hear echos of Ephesians or Romans or anything else in those two verses? Go read Ephesians 1:22 and write out prayer about the verses we’ve seen in praise for the One who is above and over all things for us.
Read Hebrews 1:3-4
See?
Our King. Our Savior. Our Friend. Our Deliverer. Our Peace. Our Power. Our Shield. Our Defender. He is everything for us. The Radiance of God’s glory! The Exact representation of God’s being. He ___________________ all things by His powerful word. And yet there’s more. In fact, as I write this, Romans 8:32 is on Biblegateway: “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?”
Read Hebrews 1:5-6
The Son Superior to Angels
Peek at the footnotes, these words are all Scripture too. God’s Son is superior to the angels, as even they are created. When God sent Jesus, He sent love. Jesus brought peace. So while He is the ‘exact representation’ of the God who is Love, His Love brings Peace and Joy and everything we need. There is every reason to praise His name every moment of every day.
Read Hebrews 1:7-8
For ever and ever. There is not one day now or ever that He is not over us. He will always, always be over us. Stay close to Him. There is no one else who has come to save us. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12. Jesus, it’s Jesus, the One and Only Son, Jesus.
Read Hebrews 1:9
That’s why Joy was so present with Jesus. Why He gives it to us even now. It’s who He is, Love and Joy and Peace and Power and everything else that is righteous.
Read Hebrews 1:10-12
This is how we can study. He is always the same. He doesn’t change. It’s how we can count on Him and trust Him and live in Him. Because things are going to get a whole lot worse for the earth before they get better, perfectly better. Trust Him.
Read Hebrews 1:13-14
Matthew 5 is part of Jesus’s sermon on the mount. He said this… 34 But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.
And in Ephesians 1:19b-22, Paul prays that we would know the hope to which we were called and that this is true: “That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church,”
Everything is under Christ feet. There is no reason to fear.
And what about those ministering spirits? It’s another way of assuring us and proving no angel is higher than Christ. Just Trust Him. Because He is always with you.
Praise You, Jesus. Thank You, Jesus.
Amen.
