Romans 4 is Lesson 5
I’m sorry I missed this. I don’t know how I was confused. But here it is. And it should slot there between three and five. I’ve changed the titles on all the Bible Studies to make it obvious which one is which now. Go by them, not the dates to find where you are.
Welcome back for Session Five of the Bible Study on Romans. This is so much fun and so deep too. If you’re jumping in here and missed the first four posts, back out and scroll down to get to the others. We’re only on chapter four today, the first chapter took two sessions to finish. Every one of them thus far is here. Enjoy them.
Let’s Pray.
Father, we’re back to do Romans 4 today and I for one am excited to see what you have in mind for us. I’m leaning on You to provide the lesson as I read this chapter. Surprise us, Lord. Awaken the wonder for us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Romans 4 NIV
Abraham Justified by Faith
Read Verses 1-8
Abraham ___________ God, and it was ____________ to him as ____________________. Do you know that story? You can read it in Genesis 15.
To the one who…trusts God who ____________ the ____________, their ___________ is credited as ____________________.
I’ll let you in on something I do… I memorize chapters of Scripture. The one about to be quoted here is one of them. I used to recite the first several verses of this one before I fell asleep, but I can’t even do that any more, all of Scripture gets me too excited to fall asleep. It’s a strange but wonderful development. Still, there is amazing wonder and faith in Psalm 32.
What is it that David writes?
Blessed are those whose ________________ are ______________, whose ________ are _____________.
Blessed is the _____ whose _______ the Lord will never ___________ against them.
Remember that the psalms are there to help us deal with the many difficulties and joys in our lives. Let’s read the next couple verses in psalm 32, we’ll see how David experienced the difficulties of his sin and what confession and God’s forgiveness did for him.
When I kept silent, my bones ____________ away through my ____________ all _________ _______.
For day and night your hand was heavy on ________;
my ______________ was __________ as in the ________ of summer.
Then I _______________ my ___________ to you and did not _____________ up my ______________.
I said, “I will ________ my _______________ to the Lord, and you __________ the _________ of my _________.
The blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness apart from works, meaning, there is nothing we can do to earn it, it’s not a job we can go do. It’s all faith. It’s all by believing in Jesus who died to restore our relationship with God. Faith in Him credits us with His Righteousness.
Read Romans 4:9-12
Abraham is the father of all who believe … in order that _________________________ might be ____________ to them.
Read Romans 4:13-23
How are we able to receive the promise to be heirs of the world? Through the ____________ that comes by __________.
The promise comes by _________, so that it may be by ___________ and may be ____________ to all Abraham’s ____________.
Abraham believed in the God who gives _______ to the dead and calls into being the things that were _____.
Faith is terrifically important. Do not waver, and God will strengthen you. Your response should be to give ________ to God, being __________ persuaded that _______ has the ________ to do what he had ____________.
This is why “it was ________ to him as ______________.” But those words were not for him alone. They’re also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—-for us who __________ in ______ who _________ Jesus our _________ from the _________. He was ______________ over to __________ for our sins and was _____________ to life for our ________________.
Don’t let that last word be a downer for you. Justification is to be totally set free, declared clean and without sin.
You’re not only sinless, but covered in the Righteousness that comes through faith. We have to really believe that to live through the Spirit who gives life. Grow your faith.
You shine like a city on a hill, like stars in the universe.
You have the Spirit of the living God within you.
Smile.
Jesus will never let you go.
He’s always right with you, closer than your next breath.
Let His words ignite your faith and excite the Spirit within you.
There is fulness of Joy in His Presence.
Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, thank You for this beautiful lesson. Thank You for the assurance that faith is the only way to receive the promises, for I know that every promise is Yes in You. Make Your Presence conspicuously real for us today. And help us realize You are always with us as we wait for the Romans 5 lesson. And bless us with lots of opportunities to excite Your Holy Spirit this coming week. Your drops of Joy are beyond compare. You really are everything we need. In Your Precious and Holy Name, I pray. Amen.
