We’re going to spend two weeks in each of the chapters 5 through 7 because there is so much in them, and I can only encourage you to read the entire Sermon on the Mount yourself. Blessed are you…oh it’s so good. Doing a quick study can’t possibly cover all the verses. And you can’t find yourself until you read it all yourself.
The Sermon on the Mount
Please read Matthew 5:9-10
9 “Blessed [spiritually calm with life-joy in God’s favor] are the makers and maintainers of peace, for they will [express His character and] be called the sons of God.
10 “Blessed [comforted by inner peace and God’s love] are those who are persecuted for [c]doing that which is morally right, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [both now and forever].
I love the amplified Bible because of those bracketed texts. But you may skip them. Either way, let’s walk through these two verses.
Verse 9 – Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the sons of God.
Spiritually calm. Joyful in life, because of confidence in God’s favor.
Thus they will express God’s character as they make and maintain peace.
Verse 10: Blessed are those who are persecuted for doing that which is morally right, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Inner peace and God’s love will permeate their lives.
And the kingdom is theirs now and forever.
Blessed Indeed
Lord, I ask that you teach us peace making and comfort us in persecution. Give us the time to read all of this sermon of yours as well. Encourage us to keep going, Lord. In Your Holy and Precious Name I pray. Amen.
Next week, we’re still in chapter 5, just later in it. Read the Blessed are you parts yourself, as only two are mentioned here. Till next week. Grow your faith.
