Today we’re going to look a little closer at the portion of Matthew 14 where Jesus walks on water.
The Reading
Please read Matthew 14:26-33
26 When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately He spoke to them, saying, “Take courage, it is I! Do not be afraid!”
28 Peter replied to Him, “Lord, if it is [really] You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 He said, “Come!” So Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw [the effects of] the wind, he was frightened, and he began to sink, and he cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus extended His hand and caught him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you [c]doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 Then those in the boat worshiped Him [with awe-inspired reverence], saying, “Truly You are the Son of God!”
The Quick Study
Verse 27 – Take courage. Do not be afraid. Has He told you to do or go somewhere and you’re scared? Trust Him. He is with you.
Verse 29 – Come. If you ask, He will say, “Come.” Or He’ll says, “Go”. But never will He say, Go by yourself. He is always with you in the Go. Wherever you go, wherever you’re sent. But first, he always wants you to come to Him.
Verse 31 – Immediately Jesus extended His hand and caught him. He’s well within reach to be able to do the same for you. Let your faith grow so He won’t have to ask, “why did you doubt?”
Verse 33 – Worship Him with awe-inspired reverence. For truly He is the Son of God. Son and God Himself. Blessed are we when we belong to Him.
Thank You, Lord.
Footnotes
[c] Matthew 14:31 – doubt – I.e. allow yourself to be drawn in two directions.
Take me back to the Matthew links. or. I want to read the longer study on Ezekiel.
