We’re starting today in the middle of a sentence, but here Jesus is referencing the story of Noah you can find back in Genesis 7. Let’s pray:
Lord Jesus, thank You for the enlightening you have done for me in this chapter. Lead me through these quick words and help me reveal what You have revealed to me. For Your Glory, Lord. Amen.
Matthew 24:39-41 – Amplified Bible
39 “and they did not know or understand until the flood came and swept them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be [unexpected judgment]. 40 At that time two men will be in the field; one will be [h]taken [for judgment] and one will be left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken [for judgment] and one will be left.”
Footnotes
[h] Matthew 24:40 –40 At that time two men will be in the field; one will be [h]taken [for judgment] and one will be left. – This is not the removal of the church described in 1 Thess 4:13-18 and Rev 3:10. The one taken is taken for judgment just as the wicked were taken by the flood in Noah’s day. The one left is left to enter the kingdom that Christ will establish.
I left the footnote here so you could see it. This is likely the first time Jesus has revealed to me that this story is meant for not just us to stay faithful, but it’s not our rescue. It’s the unbelievers getting taken to judgment. That news should effect how you live. In this one, I certainly want to be the faithful one left to enter the kingdom.
Be prepared. Grow your faith. Trust in Him at all times.
