Real Life

Last night, I was reading The Story to my daughter and we reached the part of John where he says “Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” It’s John 20:30-31 NIV

It’s not the very last chapter, the book ends with John 21:25 “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”

It was a totally heart warming verse to read, so much so that I had to read it twice. And I was still thinking about it this morning when I went to Bible Gateway to read the portion from Joshua that was today’s assigned reading and then saw today’s verse: it’s 1 John 4:16 “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”

That’s why it was love I felt when I read last night. There’s nothing like straight Scripture to warm the heart.

So now that I’ve told you all that I suppose you’re wondering what about those two verses really touched my heart so much. Well, part of it is I can feel the love John writes with. Then there’s this:
But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Believe. I just had to share it.
Believe. Jesus is the Messiah.
Jesus is the Son of God.
Jesus will return.
And until then…

Goodness, Love and Mercy shall follow me, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
