Hi and welcome back to afaithtalk.com. This is part of the readings that are scheduled for this coming Sunday. Think of this one as a preview to what I plan to be doing here for the Feast of Trumpets in September. For today, I’m asking Jesus to keep us on topic and reveal the lesson He has for us in this for today.
Let’s Pray:
Lord Jesus, these are your words, recorded in Matthew’s gospel. Help us see, help us hear. Teach us what this means for us. It’s a farming story and I so love those. Help us focus on what today’s lesson is rather than on anything outside of what you have to tell us. Reveal truth as only You can because You are the truth, the way and the life and we are all safe in your hands. In Your Precious and Holy name, I pray. Amen.
First the story.
Matthew 13
The Parable of the Weeds
24 Jesus told them another parable:
“The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
27 “The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’
28 “‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.
“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
29 “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’”
Then the explanation:
The Parable of the Weeds Explained
36 Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
37 He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.”
40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
The one who sowed the good seed, the wheat in this story, is the Son, Jesus. There are many places where you can know this to be true, but for now, just believe.
Jesus is telling this story of how He sows good seed. The seeds He sows are His people, his ekklesia, his family, his Holy and Blameless bride. (Ephesians 1:3-6)
The kingdom of darkness sows weeds. You can see that in your life. We are surrounded by the kingdom of darkness. Don’t fear, we are always within God’s sight (Psalm 139:1-12) and always protected by His shield and His power. (1 Peter 1:5)
The harvest at the end of the age is coming. The last day is coming. Time is going to end one of these days. The last day is nearer every single day that passes.
Verse 41, doesn’t this make you so excited? So grateful?
The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.
One promise after another…
Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.
His plan is the best ever told, ever written and it’s all here in our Bibles to read. Yet it’s not plain to just anyone. You must have ears to hear and eyes to see…
Whoever has ears, let them hear.
Bless His Name.
Faith, dear friends, every day presents another chance to grow it. So let’s use these days to do just that. Grow your faith.
