Welcome back to afaithtalk.com. It’s a gift to welcome you here today. Every time you come and read to study with me is such a blessing to me, even if you don’t comment, because I just Trust that whomever needs to read what is posted will find it.
If you see many calendars you’ll see Rosh Hashanah starts tonight. I prefer to call it by it’s name in Leviticus 23. The Festival of Trumpets.
The Festival of Trumpets
23 The Lord said to Moses, 24 “Say to the Israelites: ‘On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of sabbath rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts.’”
The reason it’s the 9th month in America is we don’t follow the same calendar they do in Israel. There are names to them but they don’t stick in my head and I try not to have to look up everything I tell you here. I’m sure it’s Google-able if you’re interested in knowing. It’s not really the point of this.
I read a book called Unlocking The Secrets of the Feasts by Micheal Norten and it was astonishing. The things we miss when we’re not focused on the Festivals God sets are too wonderful to miss. Study them, come with me as I do. So much wonder exists in these next few festivals.
The Festival of Trumpets is the first of the Fall Festivals. Yes, there are more. This one doesn’t last but from sunset Wednesday to Sunset Friday. It’s a New Year celebration for the Israelites, as their new year begins in their seventh month. This is also why these festivals move on our calendar, their years are different than ours.
God told them to commemorate it with trumpet blasts, want to guess how many blasts they blow? There are four kinds of blows. One of them is blown last and sustained for as long as the person blowing it can hold it. The other three in cycles many times.
Would it shock you to hear 100? Yes, 100 times, the 100th being the fourth one, the longest blast.
Really, that Unlocking the Secrets of the Feasts book is so exciting. Just two clips from there…
“The word Tekiah really means ‘to be stuck’ or ‘to stop or pause.’ Hashem is getting our attention. God is trying to stop us and to focus on him.” Rabbi Tzahi Shapira*
“Tekiah Hagedolah, the final blast, a very long sound, is a call to come forth or to arise. … This is the Tekiah that announces that the king has arrived.”*

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
Therefore encourage one another with these words.”
Are you ready? If Jesus comes to retrieve His people, are you ready to go today? The best way to know? How is your relationship with Him? Do you spend time with Him now, when He isn’t seen? He is coming. I don’t know when, but it could be any day and we all should be ready.
Let’s pray:
Lord Jesus, we have seen that we really need to know You. We want to. Forgive us for all our sins. Please, Lord, come into our hearts and make us wholly yours. In your holy and precious name, we pray. Amen.
